Ian J. Plant

Ian J. Plant has been photographing the natural world for fifteen years. His work has appeared in a number of books and calendars, as well as national and regional magazines, including National Parks, Blue Ridge Country, Adirondack Life, Wonderful West Virginia, and Chesapeake Life, among others.

Ian has also been profiled and his photography work featured in Outdoor Photographer magazine.

His sixth and most recent book is the critically acclaimed Chesapeake: Bay of Light. An Exploration of the Chesapeake Bay's Wild and Forgotten Places. Ian's work has also appeared in five books of the Wonder and Light series.

Ian specializes in both wildlife and natural landscape photography. He takes a "transformative" approach to image making, treating all elements of a scene as abstract patterns, colors and shapes, choosing a composition that relates these elements to one another. He emphasizes bold compositions and the use of strong light and color to make powerful images.
